AED47 million recapitalisation secures over 700 jobs as Arada strengthens position in Australia; move lays groundwork for Roberts Co to expand into the UAE eventually

Arada, the UAE-based master developer, has successfully acquired the New South Wales division of Roberts Co. This acquisition represents a key milestone in Arada’s international growth strategy.

The transaction involves an immediate recapitalisation of AED47 million, which secures the jobs of 120 direct employees and stabilizes employment for over 600 additional workers within Sydney’s construction supply chain.

“This acquisition underscores our strong belief in the people, projects, and performance of Roberts Co. It will enable us to deliver our upcoming projects in Australia with greater control, enhanced cost efficiencies, and reduced risks,” said Ahmed Alkhoshaibi, Group CEO of Arada.

“We will invest significantly in the company to introduce it to new markets and sectors, including the UAE, and look forward to realizing our shared vision for high-quality, community-focused development,” he added.

Arada has allocated up to AED235 million to support Roberts Co’s long-term expansion into new sectors and regions. The goal is to establish a global presence, targeting an annual revenue of AED2.3 billion by 2028.

UAE-Australia economic partnership strengthens:

Ridwaan Jadwat, Australia’s Ambassador to the UAE, remarked: “This acquisition is a testament to the strengthening of the Australia-UAE relationship, further supported by the recently signed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. It exemplifies how our two nations are delivering tangible benefits to our communities, supporting sustainable development, and driving long-term economic growth.”

“The acquisition of Roberts Co’s New South Wales division by Arada showcases the UAE’s commitment to enhancing economic ties with Australia, aligning with the opportunities presented by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.”

Fahad Obaid Altaffag, UAE Ambassador to Australia, added: “This strategic move not only strengthens the robust economic relationship between our countries but also highlights our shared vision for improving people-to-people connections and fostering innovation.”

The acquisition ensures continuity for the four key Sydney projects currently under development, which include two schools, a residential complex, and a children’s hospital.

To maintain continuity, key leadership figures from Roberts Co, including Executive Chairman George Kostas—formerly CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Properties—will remain in their positions following the transaction.

Roberts Co, founded in 2017 with a mission to “build a better way,” has been responsible for delivering some of New South Wales’ most complex and high-profile construction projects. The company operates across multiple sectors, including healthcare, education, commercial, residential, hospitality, industrial, life sciences, and defence.

Since its Sydney office opening in 2024, Arada has announced AED 6 billion in planned Australian developments, including large-scale residential communities in Sydney’s inner-west, south-west, and Hills Shire. These projects are set to deliver 2,500 homes, with sales and construction expected to begin by Q4 2025.
